Magic Murderer 14: Puzzle

Bai Yutang picked up Bai Chi's phone call and could only hear the voice on the other side trembling. He couldn’t really make out what was being said.

"Hey~~~ Talk slowly..." Bai Yutang reminded himself to be patient~~ Be patient.

Zhan Zhao sitting beside him saw that the corner of the White Mouse’s mouth was twitching. He was reaching his limit~~

However, the expression on Bai Yutang's face changed color instantly after hearing Bai Chi's words. He hung up the phone, and only said "Kitty, hold on!"

"Ah? ... Ah!!!" Before Zhan Zhao could respond, Bai Yutang had violently spun on the spot and stepped on the accelerator to go back the way they came.

"White Mouse, do you think you are flying an airplane?!" Zhan Zhao firmly grasped the seat belt and thought to himself that he really must buy a car for himself when he was free. He should never take Bai Yutang's car again!!

But then Bai Yutang's next words stunned him—"Kitty, Shen Ling is dead!"

The scene at the Entertainment City was chaotic, and the guests were frightened and were fleeing. Bai Chi wanted to stop the guests from leaving after informing Bai Yutang, but~~ although he was part of the Bai family, he didn't have the same temperament as his two elder brothers (1). Everyone turned a blind eye to him~~ In the middle of worrying, he heard someone scream again.

Turning his head back, he saw someone pointing to the stage in horror. He recognized the man as Qin Bi, Zhao Zhen’s agent.

Looking in the direction of his finger, he saw that Shen Qian had pulled out a pistol somehow and had raised the gun in both hands, aiming at Zhao Zhen...

Bai Chi's mind was still hesitating, but his body had already taken a step forward.

"Stop…it." While shouting, he quickly ran to the stage and spread his arms in front of Zhao Zhen. He shouted to the out-of-control Shen Qian, "You... you calm down!"

"Go away!" Shen Qian's eyes were red with rage and his face was terrible. He flipped the safety catch on the gun, "You go away! I'm going to kill him! It's him who killed Ling Ling."

"No... That’s not certain! Everything has to wait for investigation..." The more anxious Bai Chi was, the more confused he was, and the more anxious he became.

"Shut up!" Shen Qian switched which hand was holding the gun, and said rather cruelly, "Get away! Otherwise I will kill you together!"

Bai Chi wanted to persuade him to stop with words but seeing as Shen Qian was already in a crazy state, he wouldn’t hear anything he said.

"Anyway... I won't let you kill him!" Bai Chi watched Shen Qian closely, stretching out his arms as far as possible to block Zhao Zhen behind him.

Zhao Zhen stood behind him, looking at the Xiao Bai Chi in front who wanted to protect him. Such a small man, trembling with fear, was still trying his best to save him... It was unfathomable, and somewhat aroused his interest~~

Bai Yutang's speeding car rushed to the Entertainment City. When he saw the crowd running away in a flood, he wanted to try to stop it, but then he heard a gunshot from not far away~~

The crowd heard the gunshot. They screamed and squatted with their heads covered, and no one ran away.

Bai Yutang pulled out his gun, pushed Zhan Zhao, who was about to get out, back into the car, and closed the door and locked it. Then, he ran into the crowd quickly.

"Xiao Bai! Bai Yutang!~~" Zhan Zhao slammed the window of the car, but the key had been taken away, and the car was also locked~~ Although he knew that the Mouse was afraid of him getting hurt because of the unknown circumstances, but... He ground his teeth viciously~~ "Dammed Mouse! I won’t spare you!!!"

Bai Yutang rushed to the podium and saw Zhao Zhen standing on the spot, with a scratch on his left arm, and holding a stunned Bai Chi with his right hand. Opposite them, Shen Qian was lying on the ground with a bleeding hand. There was a pistol beside him.

Bai Yutang put away his gun, walked over, and picked up the gun next to Shen Qian. Looking closely at the man, he saw that a small knife was impaled in Shen Qian's hand... It was the kind of throwing knife used by magicians. The blade of the knife penetrated through the back of the hand, and it was still bleeding.

He looked back at Zhao Zhen.

"It was self-defense." Zhao Zhen shrugged and didn't seem to take it seriously. Bai Chi in his arms woke up suddenly from the shock, broke away from Zhao Zhen's hand, and ran to Bai Yutang.

"What's going on?" Bai Yutang saw Bai Chi’s alarmed face. He had only said on the phone that Shen Ling was dead. He hadn’t explained the specifics. Why did Shen Qian want to kill Zhao Zhen?

"Just a while ago, Zhao Zhen was performing magic, and then, there!" Bai Chi pointed at the billboard in the air.

Bai Yutang looked up and understood everything instantly~~ No wonder Shen Qian thought that Zhao Zhen had killed Shen Ling. That kind of place~~ No one except Zhao Zhen could do it...

"Kitty, look at this..." Bai Yutang turned back instinctively to ask Zhan Zhao what sort of feeling this array gave him~~ Only then did he remember that he had locked Zhan Zhao in the car, and sweat trickled down his face~~ Oh no! The Cat was probably about to flip out.

Bai Chi took the key to go release Zhan Zhao, who violently rushed over to find Bai Yutang. He was shocked by the bloody murder scene and forgot everything else~~~ Staring at the magic array and Shen Ling’s body hanging in mid-air, he was speechless...

There was the clamor of sirens, and soon the people of the S.C.I. had rushed to the scene.

Gongsun had been sent over by Bai Jintang. He looked at the body and said to Bai Yutang, "Get it down first."

"I want to look at the scene first." Zhan Zhao suddenly said, "Let’s go up!"

"There is a helipad on top of the building." Zhao Zhen said suddenly.

Bai Yutang instructed people to call a fire truck to prepare a ladder to pick up the corpse, and he took Zhan Zhao upstairs.

At the top of the building, Bai Yutang gestured to the pilot who was still in a daze. He took the pilot’s goggles and boarded the helicopter with Zhan Zhao.

Although it was not the right time to say anything, Zhan Zhao knew that Bai Yutang was itching to do something. Any time he saw an aircraft his mind became lost in excitement (2).

The helicopter flew off of the building, turned around in the air, and steadily stopped in front of the corpse. Bai Yutang carefully calculated the distance so that Zhan Zhao could have the best viewing angle, yet the huge airflow from the helicopter propeller would not damage Shen Ling's body.

Bai Jintang, who was looking from below, suddenly slapped his head and said to himself, "I thought of what gift to give to Yutang for Christmas this year!"

Gongsun beside him glanced over at him, "Are you going to send him a helicopter?!"

"Ce, our hearts and minds are indeed one~~" Bai Jintang wanted to kiss him as soon as he got closer. Gongsun's silver scalpel waved in his hand. "If you dare to mess around, I will really dispose of you! Look at where we are!"

Bai Jintang raised his eyebrows, "Yes, it's not very suitable here..." He said, looking up at the magical array hanging in the air~~ Suddenly he felt a headache...

When Gongsun suddenly heard Bai Jintang go silent, he turned back curiously. He looked pale and was rubbing his temples with one hand and frowning tightly as though he was uncomfortable.

"Hey!" Gongsun pushed him, "What's wrong with you?"

"Uh... No~~ I have a headache." Bai Jintang shook his head, but it felt more and more painful. There seemed to be some images flashing in his head that were flying past, but he couldn't see them clearly... What was going on?... Then, a scene suddenly became clear. It was a derelict room~~ It was very big~~ It looked like a warehouse... and then it was once again chaotic~~

"Hey!" Gongsun felt that Bai Jintang's condition was not right, and shook him hard, "Bai Jintang, what's wrong with you?"

"Huh..." Bai Jintang smiled weakly. He tried to make himself see Gongsun’s face clearly. "Why are you calling me by my last name~~ so familiar?"

If it was as usual, Gongsun would just him a punch directly, but now, he had no time to worry about that. Maybe it was the intuition of a doctor. He only knew that Bai Jintang was in a very bad state.

Bai Jintang saw that the chaotic scene in front of him was instantly replaced by a film of blood red. It seemed as though everything before his eyes was enveloped in a curtain of blood, and the surrounding things became hazy and unreal. All of a sudden, he heard a gun go off and the spinning bullet sliced through the sheet of blood, flying straight towards him~~ "Careful!"~~ Who was shouting... Someone took his hand...

Gongsun felt a pain in his hand as Bai Jintang suddenly grabbed it.

...? ... he looked up in surprise and saw Bai Jintang close his eyes and fall towards him

Gongsun quickly reached out to help him, but it was a pity that Bai Jintang's body was almost twice as big as he was. Gongsun just instinctively let him fall on himself rather than fall on the cold ground.

"Jintang~~ What's the matter with you? Jintang?!" Gongsun didn’t want to be crushed, so he rolled over and shook Bai Jintang gently. He even hoped that Bai Jintang was deliberately joking with him, but he didn’t wake up...

"Big Brother~~" ​​Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao returned to the ground after looking at the scene and hurriedly ran over.

"Big Brother!" Bai Yutang quickly checked Bai Jintang’s condition. His breathing, pulse, and heartbeat were normal, and his body temperature was normal~~

"How could this happen?" Zhan Zhao from the side asked the obviously panicking Gongsun.

After calming down his emotions a little, Gongsun thought for a while, "He just looked at the billboard and said he had a headache. Then he fell down."

After Zhan Zhao listened to the answer, he reached over and rolled up Bai Jintang's eyelids to look at his pupils.

"Boss!" The twins, who knows when they showed up, rushed over.

"Oh, it's been a long time since he last collapsed." Ding Zhaohui said anxiously.

"Brother has done this before?" Bai Yutang asked the twins in surprise. "Is he sick? Hasn’t he been examined?"

"He's not sick." Ding Zhaolan shook his head. "He used to be like this when he was a kid. At first, he would be fine, then he wouldn't know what he said, or what he saw, and he would suddenly faint... but it’s rarely happened since he grew up."

"Then how did he wake up?" Zhan Zhao suddenly asked.

"He will wake up on his own, generally no more than two hours. If he is fast, he will wake up in a few minutes."

The twins started to lift Bai Jintang to the car to rest. Seeing the despondent look on Gongsun's face, it was really worthless for Bai Jintang. If he saw Gongsun's worry now, he would definitely faint~~

"Gongsun, don't worry, maybe it's a side-effect of a head injury as a kid..." Da Ding wanted to say that Gongsun could rest assured to go do the autopsy. Don't worry about it, Xiao Ding poked him and motioned for him to look at Gongsun's hand.

Da Ding bowed his head and saw Bai Jintang's hand was holding Gongsun's tightly...

"Gongsun, I can just ask Dr. Yang for the initial autopsy. You can take care of my brother." Bai Yutang patted Gongsun on the shoulder.

Watching everyone leave, Bai Yutang cleared up his mind. He would investigate the matter of his elder brother later. The important thing now was...

Looking back, he saw Zhan Zhao frowning and bowing his head in thought.

"Kitty, what are you thinking?" Bai Yutang asked.

It seems that he was thinking too hard and Zhan Zhao did not respond at all.

"Kitty!" Bai Yutang shouted into his ear.

"Ah?" Zhan Zhao woke up suddenly and opened his eyes to look at Bai Yutang.

"What are you thinking?" Bai Yutang thought he looked adorable, like a frightened cat.

"Well... I'll be right back." Zhan Zhao finished talking and ran to the side of the car, saying something to the twins. After the twins listened, he nodded suspiciously before he ran back.

"What have you got up your sleeve?" Bai Yutang was a little puzzled.

"I'll tell you later, what's important now is..." As he spoke, Zhan Zhao pointed at Shen Ling's body that had been taken down by the firefighters "to solve this puzzle!"

Bai Yutang nodded, "Kitty, did you see everything clearly earlier?"

"En." Zhan Zhao nodded. "Very clearly!"

"Now, all the insiders are dead, plus we have a murder that is almost impossible..." Bai Yutang smiled slightly, "What do you think about this series of mysteries~~ Oh great expert?"

Translation Notes:

(1) He’s referring to Bai Yutang and Bai Jintang as brothers even though they are actually cousins.

(2) This is just an approximate translation because I couldn’t figure out how to phrase it. It literally says Bai Yutang becomes confused and disoriented when he sees an aircraft but it’s connotative that he becomes lost in his excitement to fly them. Remember, he was an Airforce pilot for three years.
