Killer Training Camp 02: Sniper
As soon as the gunshots rang out, Zhan Zhao had flashed to the balcony and pulled down the floor curtains. Several daring guests followed suit, pulling down all of the curtains around them, and the entire ballroom became a fully enclosed room.
Bai Yutang turned and rushed into the elevator and said to a few panicked guests, "Call the police! Don't leave before they come, it is safer to stay indoors for now!"
Zhan Zhao rushed in the moment the elevator door closed.
"Cat, what are you doing here?" Bai Yutang took his gun in one hand and pulled off the tie that had troubled him for a long time with the other. He tucked it into his pants pocket.
"I'm going too!" Zhan Zhao also took out his gun. Since Bai Yutang had given him the pocket-sized Remington, Zhan Zhao had kept it with him.
Bai Yutang blinked at Zhan Zhao with a funny look: "Cat, pay attention later. Don't hit me, and don't hit yourself!"
Zhan Zhao felt rage bubble up!!!
"White mouse! I’ll shoot you now!" Zhan Zhao was extremely angry, and he raised his hand and aimed.
Bai Yutang quickly grabbed his hand, "Be good, Kitty, what will you do if you injure me for the rest of my life?"
"Go to Hell!" Zhan Zhao lifted his foot to kick Bai Yutang, and Bai Yutang ducked to avoid it. At this time, the elevator door opened with a "ding".
They immediately smiled and ran towards the building opposite.
Everyone in the banquet hall was stunned by the sudden change.
The man who had been shot had unfortunately fallen to the ground in pain. Ding Zhaohui squatted down and helped him up, and Zhaolan reached out and put pressure on his oozing shoulder, making him scream in pain again.
"Bear with it!" Zhaohui comforted him, turning to look at Bai Jintang, whose face was not so good.
Bai Jintang nodded at him, and Zhaohui took out his cell phone and called the police.
Suddenly, Jon exclaimed, "Doctor..."
The attention of the crowd turned to the new commotion immediately and saw Dr. Wilson covering his chest. He twitched a few times before falling straight to the ground.
"Doctor... ah!" Jon trembled next to him, "he... he's not breathing! Not breathing..."
"Calm down, it’s just a sudden myocardial infarction (TL note: yeah, just heart attack, Gongsun! No biggie)!" A cold voice sounded. Gongsun had already walked up to Professor Wilson, "Help him lie down."
Maybe it was that Gongsun's calmness infected everyone, but several guests came up to lay the old man flat.
Gongsun unbuttoned Wilson's collar, and said to everyone: "Two people stay to raise his legs, the others back away. He needs space!"
The crowd immediately followed suit.
He lowered his head and put his ear on Wilson's chest. Gongsun listened carefully, then straightened up. He reached out and groped back and forth for the position of the professor’s heart. After selecting the position, he pressed his left hand flat against the chest, and curled his right over it. He then pushed his hands down vigorously and rhythmically. (TL note: I modified this slightly to sound more like proper CPR…)
"Cough..." They saw Professor Wilson shudder, and after a cough, he breathed quickly. Gongsun started rummaging through the professor's pockets and quickly pulled out a small bottle with a few capsules inside. Glancing at the label of the bottle, Gongsun unscrewed it and took one out. Looking down at Wilson, he said, "Open your mouth and put your tongue up."
Wilson's consciousness seemed to have recovered, and he opened his mouth.
Gongsun squeezed his jaw, carefully poured the medicine under his tongue, and said with a sigh of relief, "Hum."
Wilson took the medicine and closed his mouth.
Gongsun unbuttoned Wilson’s shirt cuff to feel his pulse with his left hand and looked at his watch on his right hand.
After half a minute, Wilson improved significantly. He glanced at Gongsun gratefully, but Gongsun just said to him a little indifferently: "Lie down and don't move."
Finished speaking, he stood up and walked to the side without looking back.
Everyone in the hall breathed a long sigh of relief, and the original tense atmosphere eased up significantly.
Bai Jintang stood far away, but his eyes were watching every action of Gongsun, and they never left him for a second.
Gongsun felt his gaze and stared back fiercely.
Bai Jintang smiled and took a sip of wine. His lips slowly touched the transparent glass wall, and the golden liquid slowly flowed into his mouth...
Gongsun scolded in his heart, "Hooligan!" He really admired Bai Jintang. He could perform such a simple action so "indecently."
Bai Jintang stared at Gongsun's turned face and slightly red ears and also exclaimed in his heart, "Damn, what a sexy look!"
Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao rushed to the top floor, and they saw the obscured iron gates to the roof creaking in the night wind.
The two stood to the left and right of the sides of the gate.
Gently pushing open the door, Bai Yutang rushed out and Zhan Zhao followed.
The night on the roof was as cold as ice water, and on the fence facing the hotel, there was a person lying on his back.
The two looked at each other and ran over quickly.
The person was dead. His left eye was a bloody black hole and there were scattered glass fragments on the ground, indicating that the shot that Bai Yutang had taken had pierced through the rifle’s scope.
Even though the night was dark and there was no light around him, Zhan Zhao could still see that this "killer" was very young, at most no more than twenty years old.
At this moment, Bai Yutang suddenly tensed and watched the gate of the rooftop alertly.
Zhan Zhao was familiar with all of Bai Yutang’s habits. Whenever he sensed danger, he would be as he was now. All the muscles in his body were taught, and he was like a leopard ready to pounce and bite into his prey at any time.
Zhan Zhao also involuntarily tensed up. Bai Yutang waved at him, signaling that he should be still, and pulled him to the side of the rooftop to hide behind a raised pipe.
In the darkness, Bai Yutang's eyes staring at the door faintly flashed with excitement... Zhan Zhao suddenly remembered Qin Jiaqi's (1) evaluation of Bai Yutang in the prison that day—The Exorcist.
Indeed! From childhood up to now, as long as Bai Yutang was around, nothing seemed to be terrible. Zhan Zhao now understood why he, himself, was so brave. That person had never given him the opportunity to learn to be afraid.
While he was thinking, there was a faint footstep at the door. Who would go to the roof at this time of night? Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang stared intently at the door.
As the footsteps approached, the beam of a beam of flashlight swept past, and the two immediately held their breath.
"Who... who's up here?" The voice seemed to tremble slightly, and Zhan Zhao looked at Yutang with curiosity.
By this time, the man had stepped into the roof.
He had a black guard uniform, a flashlight in one hand, and a gun in the other... police??
"Who... who's there?" The policeman's flashlight had shone on the dead man lying on the fence. His voice shook even more, and he trembled over...
"Mayaaa~~~~" When he saw the bloody face of the deceased, the little policeman shouted in shock and sat on his butt on the ground.
Bai Yutang frowned, scolding, "Trash."
"Who... who?" The policeman heard the strange noise and aimed at the direction of the pipe in shock.
"Don't shoot, we are the police." Zhan Zhao shouted at the little policeman when he saw the impatience on Bai Yutang's face.
"Police... cops? You... have, what evidence..." the little policeman asked with a shaking voice.
Bai Yutang stood up and walked towards him in a grandiose manner.
"Don't... don't come over, otherwise I'll shoot..." The policeman pointed his gun at Bai Yutang in a panic, and then stepped back while warning him.
Unfortunately, Bai Yutang ignored him and went straight forward.
"I... I'm shooting..." The little policeman tried to fire his gun and pulled the trigger, but he couldn't seem to pull it properly.
"Ya~~" A painful scream, the gun in his hand was in Bai Yutang's hand.
Bai Yutang opened the revolver, looked at the magazine, and saw that all six bullet slots were full. He reached out and took out the policeman's badge from the policeman's jacket pocket, opened it, and compared it with a real person. Except for the exaggerated facial expression, everything else matched.
"Bai Chi?" His name was complicated to read. Who were his parents, and why was his name so awful (2)??
"Yeah……"
Zhan Zhao had also come up to the two of them and showed him his police card, "Don't be nervous, we are all police."
Bai Chi stared blankly at Zhan Zhao's police card, opened his mouth in surprise. He couldn't say a word.
Bai Yutang asked him, "Why did you come up here?"
"Uh..." Bai Chi scratched his head awkwardly, "I... I was patrolling the streets for the first time today..."
Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao nodded at the same time—that matched his impression.
"Just now... I went downstairs and heard the gunshots and saw the dropped gun... so I went up to look." Bai Chi blushed slightly, raised his eyes, and looked at Zhan Zhao: "Your police I.D. card... are you from the SCI? "
Zhan Zhao smiled gently at him, "My name is Zhan Zhao, and his name is Bai Yutang."
Bai Chi flushed immediately, opened his mouth and stared at Bai Yutang in horror, "You... you are, Bai... Team... Captain?"
Bai Yutang looked at him funny, put the boy’s policeman's badge back into his jacket pocket, raised his gun and asked him, "Do you know why the trigger doesn't work?"
"Uh..." Bai Chi shook his head in confusion.
With all the bullets removed, Bai Yutang returned the empty gun to Bai Chi, sneered and said, "Next time, remember to unlock the safety!"
………………
The atmosphere in the banquet hall was abnormal and solemn. Ding Zhaohui and Ding Zhaolan looked after the wounded and waited for an ambulance.
Everyone was stunned in the closed room, and every second seemed extremely long.
Bai Jintang went over to Gongsun's side, and was trying to say something when someone came and interrupted him.
"Mr. Bai, today has been unlucky."
Turning his head, he saw a wealthy old man in his fifties with several young men in suits and leather shoes standing in front of him.
"You must have been shocked, Pang." Bai Jintang politely apologized to the old man, but it was not with sincerity. The man in front of him was Pang Ji. His family business was mainly a nightclub and in S City, he was a well-known local rich man. Bai Jintang had already done some research, and he didn't like him.
"Hehe, as soon as Bai's company started here, he suffered this misfortune. Could it be some kind of foretelling? It seems that S City is not a good place for you, Boss Bai." Pangji looked at the crowd behind him slightly. "I'm going to leave first, everyone. It's too unsafe here."
The crowd was shifting slightly, and several people wanted to leave.
Pang Ji turned around with satisfaction, just about to leave, and stopped suddenly. His gaze fell on Gongsun, who was sitting calmly on the side of the sofa, and he asked kindly, "Aren't you leaving? Would you like to go together?"
Originally, Pang Ji felt that because Gongsun had calmly rescued Dr. Wilson, his actions would have a certain influence on everyone. As soon as he left, many people present would follow! Moreover, Gongsun didn't seem to have a close relationship with Bai Jintang.
Gongsun looked up at Pang Ji with a disdainful look, sighed, and said leisurely, "What should I do?" He said, glancing at Chen Jiayi and Fang Jing who were sitting calmly and drinking beside him. "The ladies present were all so brave and calm, as a man, how can you be scared to run away with your tail between your legs?"
"Well..."
The twins, who were already so angry that they had wanted to pull out their guns, couldn't help laughing, and the other guests, especially the male guests, stood proudly and became calm.
At this time, the wail of a siren came from downstairs.
Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao took the small police officer Bai Chi out of the building, and just happened to run into Ai Hu and the rest of the tactical response squad.
"Captain!" Ai Hu never could change the title she used for Bai Yutang.
"How is upstairs?" Bai Yutang asked about the banquet room first.
"The wounded and the one with the heart attack have already boarded ambulances, and the others dispersed after we took down their names." Ai Hu said, "Fortunately, no one was killed."
Bai Yutang frowned and nodded, "The dead one is on the rooftop."
"Right, did you find the weapon?" Zhan Zhao asked.
"That's what I want to talk about." Ai Hu said seriously, and a police officer nearby handed her the sniper rifle that had fallen badly.
"Barrett M82A1"? Bai Yutang felt a headache coming on. This was the most widely used sniper rifle, but it was still not easy for folks to get.
"This case should probably be transferred to SCI." Ai Hu said suddenly.
"What?" Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang both said at the same time, stunned.
Ai Hu shook her head, "This is the fourth sniper assassination this month."
...
The night came quietly, and darkness invaded every corner. Fear had nowhere to hide.
While standing at the top of the city and looking around, the bright city feels like a huge machine that runs and never stops.
Di ~~~~~
The computer screen flashed again, and the mail flew in.
"Let sin expose the dead, let the ugly hide, let those dirty hypocrites taste the devil's sickle."
He closed the display and opened his arms to feel the tranquility. To become a unique existence. Laughter permeated the night sky.
“Now 'gin the rueful wailings to be heard.
Now am I come where many a plaining voice
Smites on mine ear. Into a place I came
Where light was silent all. Bellowing there groan'd
A noise as of a sea in tempest torn
By warring winds. The stormy blast of hell
With restless fury drives the spirits on
Whirl'd round and dash'd amain with sore annoy.”

(1) One of the two bystander prisoners they interrogated in the first case.
(2) Bai Chi’s name sounds very similar to the Chinese pronunciation for “Idiot,” but it has different Kanji.
