S.C.I. Mystery Vol. 1, Ch. 31

Killer Training Camp 03: Student

The people in the banquet hall left after the police had taken down their information.

Gongsun rubbed his eyebrows, left the hall, and walked towards the elevator.

Looking at the elevator, which was crammed full of people like canned sardines, Gongsun felt a little nauseated. He shook his head and decided to go down the stairs.

When he opened the door of the stairwell, and he just started to go down... his arm was suddenly pulled back hard.

Before Gongsun could call out, he was pulled into a corner corridor without people.

Looking up, he saw Bai Jintang smiling in front of him.

"You... hmm..."

Bai Jintang said nothing and pressed Gongsun against the wall. Then, he bowed his head and kissed Gongsun madly.

...

Gongsun couldn't push his hand away and struggled to no avail. In the end, he had to fiercely bite Bai Jintang's lower lip.

"Hisss..." The bite hurt so much that Bai Jintang finally had to raise his head and let go of Gongsun's mouth. He licked his bleeding lip, smiled, and looked down at Gongsun, who was staring at the ground, breathless from the kiss.

Gongsun looked up at him, "What do you want?!"

Bai Jintang shrugged, "Oh, you helped me a lot just now. I want to thank you for coming, it’s just..." He paused, leaned in close to Gongsun, and whispered in his ear, "Just that I want to wholly promise myself to you (1)."

Gongsun looked up, stared at Bai Jintang's eyes for a while, and then said gently, "Okay."

Bai Jintang froze slightly, and then lowered his head with the inclination of having another kiss. Then, he saw a flash of light in front of him. He instinctively reached out and caught Gongsun's wrist in the air... He saw a bright scalpel.

"Hey, hey~~" Bai Jintang grasped Gongsun's hand and held the struggling man down. "How can you pull a knife on me at every turn?"

"Don't you want to give yourself to me?" Gongsun said fiercely, "Perfect, I already wanted to try a live dissection!"

"Hehe~~~" Bai Jintang smiled, not angry at all, "Didn’t you know? I simply like you!" After that, he bowed his head down and kissed Gongsun again.

"Well... asshole! I'm going to kill you... um..."

"It's up to you, if you want. I can give it to you, no problem~~~"

"Who wants... don't touch your hands..."

"There is a presidential suite here, just don't turn back later!"

"You... go to Hell... ah..."

………………

…………

...

In the stairwell, Ding Zhaohui took out a handkerchief and handed it to Ding Zhaolan, "Here! You’re drooling..."

Ding Zhaolan took it, wiped off his saliva, and then handed it back, "You can have it back! You need to wipe your nosebleed..."

"But then again, the Boss is really..."

"Rogue~~~~~~"

"I'll take you back." Bai Jintang implored Gongsun softly. He was still trying to resist being kissed and could only grind his teeth.

"Who wants you to send me back?!" Gongsun took a steady breath, pushed Bai Jintang away fiercely, and turned to leave.

"It doesn’t matter, in any case! It’s on the way." Bai Jintang dragged Gongsun with him, "There is a special elevator here."

The entire time he was being pulled downstairs by Bai Jintang and when he was being stuffed into the car, Gongsun was still wondering what it really meant for something to "just happen to be on the way?"

Gongsun opened his mouth to speak as he watched Bai Jintang insert a key into the door of the neighboring room.

Before he could say anything, he saw the Ding twins, who knows when they had shown up, insert a key into the room two doors over.

Gongsun felt his anger rise...

"You... you..."

Bai Jintang pushed the startled Gongsun into the room and closed the door. Looking up, he could see huge floor-to-ceiling windows and closed curtains.

"You have been living in the police station recently, haven’t you?" Gongsun went to the window and stretched out his hands to open the curtains. It was a bright night view.

Gongsun stared blankly at the dilapidated building across the way, which originally had the air of a black hole. Now, it turned out to be a brightly lit, busy scene of renovation.

"This area has a great potential for development. I have already bought that building, over there..." Then, he pointed his finger at the originally creepy window and said, "The office of the President of the Bai Group!"

"..." Gongsun was a little uncomfortable. "You don't need..."

"Hmm..." Bai Jintang stretched out a finger and waved it to illustrate his point. "The visual angle is the best there. You can see me, and I can see you too. You can sleep peacefully every night."

…………

Gongsun turned to look at him with a little seriousness for the first time. But then Bai Jintang added, "Oh, by the way, I opened a hole in the wall!"

Looking in the direction he indicated, Gongsun found out that there was an extra huge doorway in the wall. The two rooms were connected (2).

…………

"Bai Jintang! Get lost! You are a psychopath!!!"

"That’s the first time you’ve called me by name!"

"You... ah! What are you doing? Put me down!"

"Let's go into the room and discuss the specifics of being acquainted..."

"Go away! Get out of my room!"

…………

That night, Bai Jintang tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. After Gongsun had thrown him out, he had blocked the connected doors with furniture. "Ai~~~" Bai Jintang sighed for the 30th time that night—why was this person so awkward?

Early the next morning, the refreshed Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao arrived at the S.C.I. They were were called by Bao Zheng to the chief's office.

"What do you think?" Bao Zheng threw a document to the two.

Upon opening, the file turned out to be the case from the night before with several other cases of sniper rifle killings.

"They don't look like they were done by a professional killer." Bai Yutang flipped through the files. "The technique used seems to be rather unsophisticated!"

Bao Zheng nodded, "That is the most worrying part!"

Zhan Zhao frowned as he looked at the data: "Yesterday, the killer was a student of M University? Qi Lei. He was just over twenty?"

Bao Zheng continued to nod, "This case is a bit strange. Dr. Wilson and Jon King are both foreign celebrities, so the incident has attracted a lot of attention. You have to solve the case within half a month!"

Bai Yutang scratched his head, "Chief Bao, you are setting a time limit again?!"

Zhan Zhao also echoed, "You are?"

Bao Zheng looked at the two with amusement, "You two little whelps, give me a little peace. Solve the case in half a month. If you’re one day late, you will clean the toilets for an entire year!”

Everyone at S.C.I. saw Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao when they entered irritably.

"Mahan!"

"Sir?"

When Mahan saw Bai Yutang's complexion, she immediately obediently ran over to take orders.

"Take the technical team to the four crime scenes to investigate!"

"Yes!"

"Wang Chao, Zhang Long, go investigate the details of the victims, as well as the professor and Jon King."

"Yes!"

"Xu Qing, check where the gun came from!"

"Yes!"

"Let’s solve the case within half a month!"

"What??"

Bai Yutang looked at his subordinates and said with a smile, "If we’re one day late, we’re cleaning the toilets for a year!"

The people scattered quickly like animals from a fire...

Zhan Zhao glanced at a certain mouse that was out of breath and whispered, "Huh, the miscreant is determined!"

Bai Yutang squinted at him, "Dead Cat, what are you mumbling?"

"What shall we do?" Zhan Zhao asked, tilting his head.

"Hu....." With a sigh, Bai Yutang picked up the information off the table, "We will go to M University, and figure out Qi Lei!"

M University was a private, third-rate university. The students' habits and styles were completely different from those of C University. Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao went to the office of the law school—yes, Qi Lei was a law student.

Jia Zhengyan was a young teacher in his thirties. He was the class teacher of the second class of the 04 law school where Qi Lei was a student.

He enthusiastically received Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang. According to Jia Zhengyan’s description, Qi Lei did not mesh well with his class. After living in the dormitory for half a year, he moved out and rented his own rooms.

"Why? Was he at odds with the people in the dormitory?" Bai Yutang asked.

"Well..." Jia Zhengyan hesitated and said, "Qi Lei was sick and could not live with his classmates."

"What sort of illness did he have?"

"...sleepwalking..."

"Sleepwalking?" Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao stared at each other in surprise.

"Can you tell me about it more specifically?" Zhan Zhao asked with interest.

"Of course." Teacher Jia nodded. "Zi Lei has attacked his roommate many times in the middle of the night. He has set fires and hit others... the worst time was when he almost suffocated himself in bed."

"How did you know he was sleepwalking?" Zhan Zhao asked with a frown.

Teacher Jia sighed, "Although Qi Lei is not very communicative, he is very gentle. According to his roommate, whenever he attacked someone at night, he was uncharacteristically fierce... And, afterwards, he couldn't remember what had happened. "

Zhan Zhao bowed his head and said nothing, seemingly lost in thought. Bai Yutang asked Teacher Jia a few more questions. While this was occurring, Zhan Zhao didn't say a word and simply kept frowning.

After the questioning was complete, Zhan Zhao finally said, "Where does he live, do you happen to know?"

"Oh, there are records on the students’ contact details. I'll copy down the address for you."

Jia Zhengyan took out a sticky note and wrote down the address, saying, "For any more specifics, you should ask the band's people. They should know the most.”

"Band?"

"Qi Lei is very talented in music and plays the bass very well. He formed a band called ‘Boiling Point’ with several other students in the school. It is considered to be a little famous on campus. I heard that there have recently been record companies that want to make contracts with them.”

"Where can we find the other band members?"

"Oh, in the school's activity room in the red three-story building in the back."

Jia Zhengyan looked at his watch, "They practice there every afternoon, and you can hear the noise when you enter the building."

The two walked out of the office building of the law school. Zhan Zhao, who had absolutely no sense of direction, made three laps around campus to try to find the activity room.

Bai Yutang looked at his watch, "Cat, it’s twelve o'clock. It would be improper to go now, so let’s go after lunch."

... Zhan Zhao, reminded by Bai Yutang, felt his stomach growling.

"What should we eat?" After another three laps, Bai Yutang pulled Zhan Zhao towards the school gate before he got too tired.

"Where should we go?"

"When we came in earlier, I saw a Japanese restaurant that looked good at the school gate."

"Japanese cuisine?" Zhan Zhao was quite interested, "SUSHI! SUSHI (3)! I want salmon too."

"Okay, okay, salmon sushi rolls."

"I also want to eat sardine sushi rolls!"

"Yes, yes, sardine sushi rolls."

"And salmon!"

"Yes, salmon."

"And red seabream!"

"How come you only want fish, are you really a cat?"

"Wasabi!"

"Don't eat wasabi!"

"Why not?!"

"People with weak stomachs are not allowed to eat it!!"

"Humph!"

The two walked into the Japanese restaurant in front of the school.

"By the way, Cat." Bai Yutang found a relatively quiet table and sat down. "You were absent-minded earlier; did you discover anything?"

Zhan Zhao sat down opposite him and picked up the menu to order. "I'm not sure yet. I just have some doubts."

"What do you suspect?"

"Hmmm……"

"Tell me! Dead cat, stop keeping me hanging."

"I don't think Qi Lei's state at the time was similar to sleepwalking." Zhan Zhao picked up some of the eel rice in front of him with chopsticks.

"What do you mean?"

"Generally speaking, the chance of sleepwalking in adults is very small, and most of them have no purpose while doing so. In terms of performance, however they walk around, they should be in a confused state." Zhan Zhao pondered, and continued to poke the eel rice.

"His teacher said that he was extremely fierce when sleepwalking, and that he didn't know what he had done after the fact." Bai Yutang stared at the poor eel rice.

"That is the strangest part!" Zhan Zhao said, "Sleepwalking is mainly the result of human cerebral cortex activity. Brain activity includes two main processes, ‘excitation’ and ‘inhibition’. Normally, when a person sleeps, cells in the cerebral cortex are in a state of inhibition. If at this time, one or more groups of nerve cells that control movement are still in an excited state, sleepwalking will occur. The scope of sleepwalking is often in the environment that sleepwalkers are most familiar with and with actions they often do repeatedly... "

"Cat." Bai Yutang knocked on the bowl in front of Zhan Zhao with his chopsticks. "You are no longer speaking Chinese."

Zhan Zhao glanced at him and picked up a large sushi roll. "Simply speaking, sleepwalking people are unlikely to change dramatically! Furthermore, they will still remember the basic gist of what occurred while they were dreaming." He opened his mouth and took a bite.

Bai Yutang thought about it, "You mean, he did it on purpose?"

Zhan Zhao shook his head with the sushi, "Ah...... unlikely."

"Then what is it?"

"..... I can't confirm it yet, so I want to see his living environment." Zhan Zhao continued to struggle with his food.

"..... It shouldn’t be a lunatic again, right?" Bai Yutang sighed helplessly. "Why are so many people abnormal this year?"

Zhan Zhao held up a fried shrimp and pointed at him: "White mouse! You are not allowed to say the word 'lunatic' again!"

Bang~~~~

Before Zhan Zhao had finished speaking, a nearby table was overturned. Then, they heard a dispute.

"Do you have the guts to say that again?!"

The two turned their heads and looked at a table near the door where two people were arguing.

One person grabbed the other's collar and scolded him fiercely before punching and kicking him.

Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao noticed in horror that the fierce attacker was a woman, and that the captive was a man. He was completely unable to fight back.

The woman wore black tights and was dressed a little punk. She took a sharp breath, and turned to leave.

"Hiss~~" The man got up from the ground with a bruise on his face and cursed, "Isn't it just a campus band, who do they think they are..."

He threw down some money and turned away.

After eating, Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang first found Qi Lei's residence near the school according to the address copied by Mr. Jia.

It was a low-rent house in a collective dormitory. The two walked upstairs and knocked on the door. No one was there.

"It seems he lives alone." Zhan Zhao glanced around. "Should we go to the administrator for the key?"

Bai Yutang waved his hand, "Why would I go find an administrator? It's too much trouble." After that, he lifted his foot and kicked the middle of the door.

With a bang, the door was open.

The strange smell that wafted past their noses made both of them frown. When they were about to go in, they heard a shout, "Stop, who are you?!"

Turning their heads, they saw that the source of the voice was standing nearby and glaring at them. It was the person had been fooling around in the restaurant just a bit earlier: the punk girl.
